My name is Phu An Doan, my email is phuandoan1012@gmail.com
I am writing to seek a review of my answering process because I failed to complete the coding TTA within the time constraints. During my time, my Internet connection was not stable, so it took me some time to access the TTA again, so I couldn’t finish it on time.
If you spend some time reviewing, I think you can see that my work was almost completed. The only problem for this challenge 2 (Trapping Water) is that when I used another array (temp array) to find the second highest building, I didn’t pay attention to the fact that if I remove an item in temp array, the program will automatically delete the same item in the original array (arr parameter of TrappingWater function) because I used assignment operator to create a copy of the original array. That’s why the program can’t find the index of the highest item in the array, which leads to the wrong result. I can suggest a way to fix it which is using a for loop to create a copy of the original array so that it will not affect the original array. I think it would not be the best solution to fix it, but I think this is the fastest way to fix my program so that you can run it right away to check my program.
One thing that I would like to add is that I am really interested in anything related to finance because I spent a lot of my free time researching credit cards, saving accounts, how to invest my money, loyalty programs, etc. Therefore, this job sounds like something that I am looking for. I hope that you can consider my efforts to finish all the TTA codings and Data Collection TTAs. In addition, I hope you can give me some feedback or advice so that I can improve my coding skills in the future.
Finally, I would like to thank you for creating some TTAs for the applicants to compete with each other to check our skills and spending some time to evaluate it during the hiring process. I appreciate your time and consideration.

Done. I have finished the coding assessment. I can’t see the final results, for the first problem my solution output seemed to be exactly the same as the correct output the in the example classes, however I was still getting a wrong answer. If it marks my solutions as failing the test cases could you or your team take a look to ensure the error is on my part and not something in the system?

It is OK, as I learned from this assessment and the questions were fun.
But in terms of copy and pasting in Coderbyte: The editor in Coderbyte has problems. I tried to print the input to see what I am working with, but I wasn’t successful. It didn’t work. So, I had to use my own IDE (PyCharm) in order to solve the problems and then pasted the solution to the Coderbyte. I solved the problems myself as I already solved problems on LeetCode.
Anyway, this weak assessment strategy shows how it will be in the future if I wanted to work with your startup!

👀 Hello Terry,
I did the programming challenge.. unfortunately I have a bug that I couldn’t find. To be honest it would have been a lot easier to catch the bug if I had a proper debugger and I am able to add breakpoint.
Having said that, I hope there will be some evaluation on the algorithm and code written and not just looking at the automated evaluation.
Please let me know if I should go through with the second part of the assessment.

I also wanted to share with you a project I did when I took a graduate machine learning course at McGill. My project report is still featured on the course website. In the project I was comparing different algorithmic trading approaches on the Tesla stock price. This was in 2018 so obviously I’ve gained many skills since then. But I’ve always had an interest in algorithmic trading and real time data processing which is why I love the work you’re doing. So I thought I mention it :)

I expected my answer to submit when it timed out. I did indeed finish the trapping water with at least the test cases shown to me to be passing and I used the time to test with my own inputs until the time expired. Hi Terry, I was really disappointed to hear that the coding assessment was not even submitted! I don’t know what happened. Because I really submitted the code. I have finished both two code challenges. I could accept that there may be bugs in my solutions but I couldn’t believe that the code was not submitted at all. It is a problem due to the online examination system, which is unfair to me! Because of this, my work on the Data Collection TTA could not even be evaluated. Although I enjoyed the process, I spent nearly 15 hours on it. I feel my work was not respected.
Did the similar thing happen to other candidates? Or it only happened to me? I feel really disappointed and upset. If there are no other records from the testing platform to support me, I think I can only accept it. I will not try to make you believe that I really solved two challenges and I saw them submitted successfully.
